Roof replacement in Kinston

Houses in Kinston are all over the map, because of what the river has done over the years. Some were raised up, some were rebuilt, and the house next door was never touched and still has its 1990s roof. Two houses on the same street can be decades apart and you would not know from the road. On a raised house the roof work is the same, but getting to it is not, so we want to see it before we quote.

Roof repair in Kinston

The most common thing we find here is a roof nobody has ever checked. If the water never reached the roof, nobody looked at the roof, and meanwhile it took wind in 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020. That adds up: shingles bent in one storm, the glue seal gone in another, and metal work that has been just about holding for years.

Siding in Kinston

Same split. Rebuilt houses have fairly new siding. Their neighbors have vinyl that has been through four windstorms. We look for cracked and loose panels, and for whether the water barrier behind them survived being soaked more than once.

Gutters in Kinston

In a town that has had water in it, where the roof water goes actually matters. Gutters need to be sized for a hard downpour, and the downspouts need to send that water well away from the house instead of dumping it at the base of a wall.

Storm damage in Kinston

Four windstorms in five years, on roofs that mostly went unlooked-at because flooding was the bigger emergency. That is the honest summary here. Whatever we find gets photographed and dated so you have a record if you decide to file.

What to look for

Signs of storm
damage in Kinston

If your roof has never been checked since 2016, it has been through four windstorms.

Shingles bent, cracked or lifted
Damage from several different storms often sits on the same roof here.
Bare patches where the surface has worn off
A sign the roof is near the end regardless of storms.
Dents in gutters, vents and flashing
The clearest evidence of hail.
Water pooling at the foundation after rain
Usually a gutter or downspout problem, and worth fixing in a town like this one.
Loose or cracked siding panels
Easy to miss. A split panel looks like a shadow line.
A ceiling stain that darkens after rain
Still leaking. Worth looking at before the next storm.

A storm rarely damages just one of them. Having the same company look at all three saves you chasing three contractors.

Kinston questions

Kinston roofing
questions

Nothing here is legal or insurance advice. Your policy and your insurance company decide what is covered, so check yours or ask your agent.

I have been flooded before and I know flood is separate. So what is left to check?

Your roof. It has been through wind in 2016, 2018, 2019 and 2020, and there is a good chance nobody has been up there, because the water was always the bigger problem. That is the most common situation we find here.

My house was raised after the flooding. Does that change the job?

Not the roofing itself, but getting up there safely does, so we want to look before quoting. It also often turns out the roof is the oldest part of the house now.

Can you tell how old the damage is?

Roughly, yes. Fresh damage reads differently from damage that has been weathering for four years: exposed mat darkens, broken edges dull, and granule loss spreads. That matters to you, because a claim rests on damage that genuinely belongs to the storm you are reporting.

Where should my downspouts empty?

Further from the house than most of them do. In a town that has had water problems, extending the downspouts is one of the simplest useful things you can do, and it should be part of the gutter job.

Do you handle my insurance claim?

No, and no roofing contractor can. In North Carolina only you, a licensed public adjuster, or an attorney can negotiate a claim, and a contractor doing the repair is not allowed to act as your adjuster. What we do is inspect, document the damage, price the work, and be at the property to show your adjuster what we found. The claim itself stays in your name.
